The reading will take place in Shantell Martin’s installation The May Room on Governors Island.

Ricardo Alberto Maldonado was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He is the co-editor of Puerto Rico en mi corazón, the translator of Dianpiera Di Donato’s Colaterales/Collateral (Akashic Books / National Poetry Series) and the author of The Life Assignment, which is forthcoming from Four Way Books. He has received fellowships from CantoMundo, the New York Foundation for the Arts and Queer|Arts|Mentorship.

Raquel Salas Rivera
is a Puerto Rican poet, translator, and literary critic. In 2018, they were named the 2018-19 Poet Laureate of Philadelphia. They are the inaugural recipient of the Ambroggio Prize and the Laureate Fellowship, both from the Academy of American Poets. Their first two full-length books, Caneca de anhelos turbios (Editora Educación Emergente) and tierra intermitente/ intermittent land (Ediciones Alayubia), were published in Puerto Rico. Their third book, lo terciario/ the tertiary, was on the 2018 National Book Award Longlist and won the 2018 Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Poetry. Their fourth book, while they sleep (under the bed is another country), was published by Birds, LLC in 2019. They received their Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory from the University of Pennsylvania. Raquel lives and works in Philadelphia.

This reading celebrates the publication of ​​Puerto Rico en mi corazón, a bilingual anthology of 40 Puerto Rican poets in response to Hurricane Maria.

Directions:
Our Lady Star of the Sea is located on the southern end of Colonels Row on Governors Island (map here). Ferries leave from Manhattan (10 South Street) or Brooklyn (Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park) and we would recommend the 2:30pm ferry departure time.
