Poetry Society of America Book Award | 2027

Norma Farber First Book Award, $500

For a first book of original poetry written by a living author who lives in the United States or is a U.S. citizen. The book must be published in a standard edition, either hard or soft cover, in 2026. Translations are ineligible, as are chapbooks. A $500 cash prize goes to the author.

Eugenia Leigh is a Korean American poet and the author of Bianca, and Blood, Sparrows and Sparrows. Poems from Bianca received Poetry magazine’s Bess Hokin Prize. The recipient of fellowships and awards from Poets & Writers Magazine, Kundiman, the Asian American Literary Review, and elsewhere, Eugenia serves as Senior Poetry Editor at The Adroit Journal and as a Board Director of Brooklyn Poets. She teaches in the MFA program at Sarah Lawrence College.

William Carlos Williams Award, $500

For a book of poetry written by a living author who lives in the United States or is a U.S. citizen. The book must be published by a small press, non-profit, or university press in a standard edition in 2026. Translations are ineligible, as are chapbooks. A $500 cash prize goes to the author.

Judge
James Allen Hall (he/they) is the author of two books of poetry and a book of lyric personal essays: Now You're the Enemy; I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well; and Romantic Comedy. They have received awards from Lambda Literary, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, the Maryland State Arts Council, the University of Arizona Poetry Center, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. They teach at Washington College and direct the Rose O'Neill Literary House. With Aaron Smith, James co-hosts Breaking Form: A Podcast of Poetry & Culture.
