Poems

Not pictured

By Guion Pratt

I imagined
a horse and no horse
appeared

That’s how it is
for everyone I thought

Behind your eye you fed
the horse an apple
in his stable
It was winter

I thought apple
and attributes flickered
in the dark
stem   red   round   cold
but these did not
an apple make
or even an empty hand

How like god I am
able only to see
what I am speaking

What do you think
she’ll look like you asked

Unable to image
I imagined nothing

then out of the nothing
momentary withers
galloping past
