Poems

unknown caller

By Cintia Santana

an ember       at the mercy of winds

you cannot trust             a blind eye of light

        arced through darkness

torches        what feeds it        fuel        fed by rain

a grief aglow        roars        swallows whole        mountains

              sentries              of the perennial         palms

                  crowns of palms        burning         stars

       along an avenue              govern nothing

willow are we

and more        so        on a windy santa ana day

remember            the ember             within

                                                              the fire

         before            the fire             and after

the quiet             once again

                                           listen             I tell you

        the space required                  for blooming

can be small                    you are still

alive               the wind              bridles your hair
