It’s one of the most wonderfully immersive poetry experiences I’ve had in a long time. It creates a feeling of excitement and, yes, joy in me at the same time that the poem also is so full of horror. This poet never allows us to look away from the horrors. And I admire that as well.

Emily Lee Luan
Emily Lee Luan is a Taiwanese American poet and essayist. A 2020 Margins Fellow at the Asian American Writers’ Workshop and the recipient of a 2022 Pushcart Prize, her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Best American Poetry (2021), Best New Poets (2019), The Offing, The Adroit Journal, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Rutgers University–Newark.
