Late Frontier by Brandon Kreitler

Winner of the 2016 PSA Chapbook Fellowship

Late Frontier by Brandon Kreitler, selected and introduced by Major Jackson

Edition: 500 copies of the winning books were printed by the Prolific Group and designed by Gabriele Wilson, with covers by Charlotte Flory.

The genius in Kreitler’s verse is his ability to capture the mournful yet questing interiority of his speakers as they grapple with the big subjects of survival, existential meaning, and wakefulness in an age of things.

—Major Jackson

Take the line of the road.

Take the spray paint marking
the plots of homes unbuilt.

Here where birds nest at the dry bottom of the swimming pool.

Take the water left over.

Leave before asking of it to remain.

The film of papery snow.

The plane of sight stretches west
and the West ends.

The love of the sun-blank afterward
is the love of it ending.
