Yvette Siegert was born in southern California, to parents from El Salvador and Colombia, and now lives in the United Kingdom. A CantoMundo Fellow and Ledbury Poetry Critic, she has received support from Macondo, Community of Writers, Kenyon Review Writers’ Workshop, Bread Loaf/The Rona Jaffe Foundation, PEN/NYSCA, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Centre for Writing, and Arts Council England. Her translation of Chantal Maillard’s Killing Plato (New Directions) was shortlisted for the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, and her volume of Alejandra Pizarnik’s later poetry, Extracting the Stone of Madness: Poems 1962–1972 (New Directions), won the Best Translated Book Award. She is a doctoral candidate in Spanish American literature at Merton College, University of Oxford.
