Your Father Came from a Movie

By Rena J. Mosteirin

After the war, everything stayed winter.
You were sweating down to your knees.

Everything seems more real in the silent middle
of your own life story. This story is your only property.

Your father came from a movie.
Now go be beautiful in every country in the world.

Beautiful like your mother
who thinks liverwurst is a health food

and spreads it on her bread every morning. She
calls salad an American lie. A lie from California.
