Open Call: Storefront Poems

The Poetry Society invites poets to submit a previously unpublished poem no longer than 10 lines to be installed for a month in the window of our storefront office on Smith Street in Brooklyn, New York. The Poetry Society will select up to five poems to be displayed during the month of August 2025.
The PSA opened its Brooklyn storefront space in the fall of 2022, creating a new home for poets and poetry readers. In addition to hosting a variety of public programs, the space serves as a laboratory for poetry-based public art projects with rotating installations in the window. The storefront window has featured poems by Nicole Sealey, Elizabeth Willis, Carl Phillips, Joy Harjo, Reginald Dwayne Betts, and Charles Simic, among others. Approximately 5,000 pedestrians pass by the window each day.
Submit your poem via Submittable starting May 1.
Submission window: May 1-May 30. Submissions will be capped at 2,000 entries.
SUBMISSION DETAILS AND INSTRUCTIONS
This open call is free for Poetry Society of America members.
The reading fee for non-members is $2.
You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Personal identification cannot appear anywhere in the submission document, including in the file name.
Only one entry per poet.
The submission cannot have been published before.
Simultaneous submissions accepted.
Submissions written by more than one author are not eligible.
Translations are not eligible. All poems must be original and primarily in English.
A poem that has previously won a Poetry Society of America award cannot be submitted.
We cannot accept any corrections or revisions to submissions.
Submissions from Poetry Society employees, officers, Board members, or their immediate families are ineligible.
All submissions are judged anonymously by the Poetry Society of America.
Poems can only be submitted via Submittable.
NOTIFICATION
Winners will be notified in July, and the poems will be installed for August.
