The Poetry Society of America, a founding member of the Poetry Coalition, is accepting applications for a paid Poetry Coalition Fellowship position. This position is 20 hours per week from September 2, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The total stipend is $20,000 plus $1,100 toward healthcare.

About the Fellowship

The Poetry Coalition is a national alliance of nearly thirty organizations dedicated to working together to promote the value poets bring to our culture and the important contribution poetry makes in the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds. The Fellowship seeks to introduce interested individuals to nonprofit literary management, develop future leaders, and diversify the literary field by encouraging greater inclusion of individuals from underrepresented communities and backgrounds.

About the Poetry Society of America

The Poetry Society of America, founded in 1910, places poetry at the crossroads of American life. We make poetry part of daily life through programs like Poetry in Motion, Poems on Wheels, and poetry-based public art installations. We place poems in parks and gardens, on subways, buses, and street corners, and now in the window of our own storefront project space. The PSA also supports and honors poets through annual awards, readings, seminars, and workshops.

Responsibilities

The Fellow will work primarily with our Public Programs and Community Manager to produce our annual series of public events, including readings, talks, seminars, children’s classes, and community programs. Specific duties will include:

  • Communicating with poets and speakers

  • Assisting with event setup, operation, and break down

  • Preparing and delivering occasional introductory remarks

  • Assisting with off-site events, including annual Four Quartets and Frost Medal ceremonies; events associated with public art projects; and private cultivation events

  • Collaborating with and facilitating the work of Poetry Society interns

  • Assisting teaching poets by helping to facilitate K–5 weekend programs and introducing and monitoring evening Zoom seminars

  • Opening, closing, and monitoring the space during community events, rentals, and external programs

  • Attending and participating in meetings, including ad-hoc meetings with other Poetry Coalition fellows and with leaders to foster community, professional development, and create a peer learning group

  • Participating in the Poetry Coalition’s professional development sessions

  • Completing evaluations at the end of the Fellowship year
