Sunday’s Empire

Peter Gizzi
A poster with mosaic artwork by Frank Leslie Hampton depicts a brick wall with a clothesline and two windows through which the New York City skyline is depicted; above the wall is another clothesline and a blue sky. The poem, Sunday's Empire by Peter Gizzi, is featured in white text.

Sunday’s Empire

The roofs speak
as light over
the scaped silence.

A cacophony
of shapes
kicks off into sky.

People live here
in the quiet
a day undresses.

Tones shaking out.
